All About Two on 02/02

What a perfect date to post an update on Payton at age 2! Here are a few things about Payton at age 2:

He is starting to talk really well and can pretty much get his point across with words; but watch out! He can throw one mean tantrum when you don't understand what he's saying, or when he's tired or frustrated! That's one of the main things we're working on with him right now and let me just tell you, discipline is not my forte!
He pretty much knows all of his letters and numbers (yeah I'm proud of it!). He's a very loving & sweet boy (as long as he's not tired or frustrated!).
My favorite word that he says right is Hapergone; this could mean macaroni or pepperoni depending on what meal we are having but he just sounds so cute when he says it!
My favorite thing that he does right now is when he wants to give you a hug or wants you to pick him up, he says "Come Here" and he wraps his arms around you. It melts my heart!

He has developed an obsession for Angry Birds! We have all of the little bird figures and he knows how to play the game on the Ipod, he knows how to unlock the Ipod and select games; in fact he calls the Ipod, Mypod!

He stills loves Trains & Music! We purchased a family pass to the Children's Museum this year (Thanks Grandma Betty!) and we go there at least once a week. They recently opened the All Aboard Exhibit, and Payton loves it!! They also have a music room with different instruments, those are basically where we spend the majority of our time at the Museum! It's always a fight to leave! I'm not going to lie, sometimes I bribe with Ice-Cream!

So far 2 is a pretty good year, although I can totally see where the term "Terrible Two's" comes from! We have 3 major goals this year: Big Boy Bed, No Pacifier, and Potty Training! I'm not looking forward to either of them! It is so exciting to watch him grow though!

Try, Try Again

It's been SOOOOO long since I've updated this blog!! It's seems like every time I sit down to post an update I just can't think of any words to type! I want my words to sound good when I type them all out, like I've thought them through. I want to be witty, I want people to understand what it is that I'm trying to say. I wish I could put a paragraph together of funny & clever words and it would make people laugh, I wish I could tell a story in such detail that it would make people feel like they were there. I wish I could write beautiful words and put them all together and they would be just that, beautiful. But for some reason I just can't!

I read a quote on Pinterest the other day (although I can't find it now) and it said "It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not" and I thought "Wow, isn't that the Truth!" Here I've been thinking that if I can't write beautiful or funny words, then I should write anything at all.

So, for now, I'm going to keep updating the blog, even if my words don't make sense or aren't fun to read. Because after all, the reason I started this blog was to record memories for my family and that's all that matters.

So starting today, Feb 1st, I'm going to challenge myself to post something everyday! It might not be exciting everyday or cute or funny. But life isn't exciting, cute or funny everyday! Sometimes life is boring, sometimes life is hard! And that's what I want to record!

Happy 2nd Birthday Payton!

Well, I'm almost a month late in posting about Payton's 2nd Birthday Party, maybe I'll get back on track someday! Payton's 2nd Birthday was September 4th and we had his party the day before on Saturday the 3rd. We were supposed to have his party outside at a local park but the weather didn't want to cooperate that day and we had thunderstorms and rain all day! So, we changed our plans and decided to have the party at our house, which was really no problem at all, we just run into space issues at our house. It can only hold so many people! Even though, we were in pretty close quarters, all in all, I think everyone had a great time! And that's really all that mattered.
The theme we decided to go with for Payton's 2nd party was Mustaches, we thought it would just be fun and I think everyone enjoyed it! Here are some pictures of the party as we were setting up:

Birthday Boy with his balloons:
Get it? Happy "Bird" Day!

Mustaches and Finger Staches

We made a balloon banner, I found the idea on Pinterest, it looked really good in real life!

Treat Bags for our little guests, they included: Disguise glasses, wooden tops, Thumbs up Stickers and Mustache Stickers:

We set up a photo booth and had props for people to take silly pictures:

I think everyone enjoyed it!

Then we had cake! I didn't make the cake, I ordered it, and it turned out great! Just what I was looking for!:

Then we opened gifts, Payton has never really gotten into opening presents, maybe someday he will, but for now it's okay, because we always have a lot of helpers!!

We had a slight melt down in the middle of opening presents because he wanted to play with one of his presents (how unreasonable!) So we had a little time out!

And then went right back into opening more presents:

How perfect is this card? He loves any card that plays music!

We still have all the cards in his room and we look at them at least once a week!

I attempted to make him a shirt to match his party theme, it worked for the day but has pretty much fallen apart now, due to my lack of sewing skills! Maybe someday I'll actually learn how to sew!

I think all the kids had a great time!

And a few of the adults found other uses for their mustaches:

The only picture we got of anyone's fingerstaches! Mine washed off before I could "use" it!

Thanks Uncle Tim for being such a good sport!
